Doug Ritchie is the co-founder of Dark Water Studios, with roots that go back to a simple start as a skater kid growing up in Dartmouth. His journey into tattooing began early, picking up the craft at just 16 and stepping into a professional shop by 18, where he started shaping his path in the industry.

He spent nearly eight years working at Legacy Tattoos in Halifax, building not just his skillset but a deep understanding of the culture, discipline, and respect that tattooing demands. Those years played a defining role in his growth, surrounded by a team that helped sharpen both his technique and perspective.
In 2022, Doug made the decision to step away and start something of his own, leading to the creation of Dark Water Studios. What began as a personal leap has grown into a space focused on individuality, strong artistic identity, and a genuine connection between artist and client.

His work is rooted in experience, consistency, and an honest approach to the craft, carrying forward everything he has learned while continuing to evolve with every piece he creates.
